TWO MEN AND THE INCRIDIBLE LIGHTNESS OF (JUST) BEING



Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain away fluid from his lungs. His bed was next to the room's only window while the other man spent all his time flat on his back.

The men passed the time by talking for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families. Their homes, their jobs, their involvement in military service, and where they had traveled on vacation. In the afternoon, when the man by the window could sit up, he would describe all the things he could see outside.

The man who was kept flat on his back began to live for the one-hour periods when his world would be broadened and enlightened by all the activity and color described to him about the world outside. The bed-ridden man was told how the window overlooked a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every color of the rainbow. Grand old trees graced the landscape, and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance.

As the man by the window described all this in exquisite detail, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine the picturesque scene. One warm afternoon the man by the window described a parade passing by. Although the other man couldn't hear the band - he could see it in his mind's eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with perfectly detailed and descriptive words.

Within time, a sinister thought entered the bed-ridden man’s mind. “Why should the other man alone experience all the pleasures of seeing everything while he was never allowed to see anything?” he thought. It did not seem fair to him that he could not also be by the window and take in the beauty of the outside world.

At first the man felt ashamed. But as the days passed and he missed seeing more sights, his envy eroded into resentment and soon turned him sour. He began to brood and he found himself unable to sleep. "I should be by that window," he thought day after day. That single thought, and that thought alone, now controlled his life. Late one night as he lay staring at the ceiling, the man by the window began to cough. He was choking on the fluid in his lungs. The other man watched in the dimly lit room as the suffocating man by the window groped for the button to call for help. Listening from across the room, the prone man never moved. He never pushed his own button, which would have brought the nurse. In less than five minutes the coughing and choking stopped along with the sounds of breathing. There was now only silence.

The following morning the day nurse arrived and found the lifeless body of the man by the window. She was saddened by his death and called the hospital attendants to take him away. As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone. Slowly, and painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the glorious world outside that had been so painstakingly described to him. He would finally have the joy of seeing the outside world for himself. He strained against his weak and stiffened body and slowly turned to look out the window beside the bed. Finally peering over the windowsill, his face washed with pain as his gaze met a blank wall. He lay back down and thought about the man that had died, trying to understand how he could have made up such stories and remember the things he had spoke of.

The next day, the man asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate to lie and described such wonderful things outside this window when it only looked upon a blank wall. The nurse informed him that the man was blind and could not even see the wall.

She then added, "Perhaps he just wanted to share with you the wonderful things that he had remembered seeing during his life."

Epilogue... You may interpret this story in any way you like, however one moral stands clear. The enemy of our human experience is this unending need to have more than our fellow man. Greed shows itself in many forms, and always tends to destroy more than it brings. What pain has it brought you? What have you given back to the world around you, and who in your community could benefit from just an hour a day? We spend most of our lives trying to collect things and stuff that has no hope in bringing us the joy of one day with close family or friends. This time on earth is so very short, and every day we waste over half of it on sleep and work. What have you given back to your little part of the world today?


There is tremendous happiness in making others happy,
despite our own situations.
Shared grief is half the sorrow,
but happiness when shared, is doubled.
If you want to feel rich,
just count all the things you have that money can't buy.

A BLIND BOY AND A SIGN


A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said: 'I am blind, please help'. There were only a few coins in the hat.

A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words.


Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy.

That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were. The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, 'Were you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?'

The man said, 'I only wrote the truth. I said what you said but in a different way.'

Do you think the first sign and the second sign were saying the same thing? Of course both signs told people the boy was blind. But the first sign simply said the boy was blind, while the second sign told people they were so lucky that they were not blind. Should we be surprised that the second sign was more effective?

The most beautiful thing is to see a person smiling :)

AN AMERICAN MILLIONAIRE BECOMES MUSLIM


An American millionaire, Mark Shaffer declared his Islam in Saudi Arabia on Saturday, 17th October 2009. Mark was at that time on a holiday in Saudi Arabia to visit some famous cities like Riyadh, Abha and Jeddah for 10 days.

Mark is a well-known millionaire and also an practiced lawyer in Los Angeles, specializing in cases of civil laws. The last big case he handled was the case of the famous American pop singer, Michael Jackson, a week before he passed away.

A tourist guide who accompanied Mark for 10 days in Saudi Arabia, Dhawi Ben Nashir told: Since he set foot for the first time in Saudi Arabia, Mark already started to ask question about Islam and Solat. As soon as he arrived in Saudi, Mark stayed in Riyadh for two days. While in Riyadh, Mark was very interested in Islam. After moving to Najran, we went to Abha and Al-Ula. There, his fascination on Islam grew more obvious, especially the time when we ventured out into the desert.

Mark was amazed to see three Saudi youths who were in our group in Al-Ula, performing solat in the expanse of the very wide desert. A very fantastic panorama indeed.

After two days in Al-Ula, we went to Al-Juf. As soon as we arrived in Al-Juf, Mark asked if I could get him some books on Islam. I then obtained some books on Islam for him. Mark read all those books. The next morning, he asked me to teach him how to perform solat. I then taught him how to pray and take wudhu (ablution). Then, he joined me and performed solat beside me.

After solat, Mark told me that he felt peace in his soul. On Thursday afternoon, we left Al-Ula heading for Jeddah. He looked very serious throughout the journey reading those books about Islam. On Friday morning, we visited the old town of Jeddah. Before the time for the Friday prayer approached, we went back to the hotel and I excused myself to go for the Friday prayer. Then, Mark told me: I would like to join you for the Friday prayer so that I can witness myself how the Friday prayer is like. So I answered: welcome…

We then went to a masjid which was not far from the hotel where we stayed in Jeddah. Since we were quite late, I and many other jamaah had to pray outside, as the number of jamaah was overflowing. I could see Mark observing the jamaah, especially after the Friday prayer was completed, when everybody was shaking hands and embracing each other with radiant and happy faces. Mark was very impressed with what he saw.

When we return to the hotel, Mark suddenly told me that he wanted to become a Muslim. So I said to him: Please have a shower first. After Mark took the shower, I guided him in saying the kalimah of shahadah (declaration of faith) and then he prayed two rakaah. Later on, Mark expressed his desire to visit the Masjidil Haram in Makkah and perform solat there before leaving Saudi Arabia.

In order to fulfill his wish, we went to the Da’wah and Irshad office in the area of Al-Hamro’, Jeddah, to obtain a formal proof of his conversion to Islam, so that he would be allowed to enter the city of Makkah and Masjidil Haram. Then, Mark was given a temporary certificate of his conversion to Islam. As a number of group members who participated in Mark’s visit to Saudi Arabia had to go back to America on Saturday afternoon, Al-Hamdulillah, Ustadz Muhammad Turkistani was willing to send Mark to the Holy Land of Makkah that same morning.

Regarding Mark’s visit to Masjidil Haram, Ustadz Muhammad Turkistani narrated: After Mark obtained his temporary certificate, we straight away departed heading for the noble Masjidil Haram. When he witnessed the Masjidil Haram, he face looked radiant and it emanated an extraordinary happiness. When we entered the Masjidil Haram and witnessed the Ka’bah for ourselves, his happiness increased. By Allah, I could not express that scene with words. After performing the tawaf around the noble Ka’bah, we performed the sunnah solat and went out of Masjidil Haram. I could see Mark very reluctantly wanting to leave Masjidil Haram.

After Mark declared his Islamic faith, he had the chance to express his happiness in Al-Riyadh Newspaper saying: I could not express my feeling at this time but I am being reborn and my life has just started… then he added: I am very happy. This happiness that I am feeling could not be expressed in words especially when I visited the Masjidil Haram and noble Ka’bah.

Regarding his next step after his conversion to Islam, Mark explained: I will learn more about Islam, I will delve deeper into this religion of Allah (Islam) and come back to Saudi Arabia to perform the Hajj.

As to what impelled him into converting to Islam, Mark explained: I have already had information about Islam, but it was very limited. When I visited Saudi Arabia and personally witnessed the Muslims there, and saw how they performed the solat, I felt a very strong drive to know more about Islam. When I read true informations about Islam, I became confident that Islam is a religion of haq (truth).

Sunday morning, 18th October 2009, Mark left the Airport of King Abdul Aziz Jeddah heading for America. When filling in the immigration form before leaving Jeddah, Mark wrote ISLAM as his religion.


Farewell Mark… May Allah bless you and make you an obedient Muslim and a Da’i who would invite the American society to benefit from the happiness of being Muslims, just as how you have felt because only Islam could save mankind in this world, as well as in the akhirah later… Aamiiin...

POSITIVE APPROACH (SO CLEVER!)



One day, a father talks to his son…


Father: I want you to marry a girl of my choice.

Son: I will choose my own bride.

Father: But the girl is Bill Gates's daughter.

Son: Well, in that case... OK!


Next day, Father approaches Bill Gates.


Father: I have a husband for your daughter.

Bill Gates: But my daughter is too young to marry.

Father: But this young man is a vice-president of World Bank.

Bill Gates: Ah, in that case... OK!


Finally, Father goes to the president of the World Bank.


Father: I have a young man to be recommended as a vise-president.

President: But I already have more vice-presidents than I need!

Father: But this young man is Bill Gates's son-in-law.

President: Ah, in that case... OK!



This is how business is done!


Moral of the story:

Even if you have nothing, you can get anything. But your attitude and approach should be POSITIVE!

A BOY AND AN APPLE TREE


A long time ago, there was a huge apple tree. It loved a little boy very much. The boy loved to come and play around it everyday.

The boy used to collect leaves from the tree to make into a crown. He would act like a King. Besides, the little boy also liked to climb to the tree top. He loved to grab on to the tree branches and to swing like a monkey. The little boy also loved to pluck the apples from the tree. He would then eat them. He would often take a nap under the cool shadow of the apple tree. He loved the tree and the tree was so happy!

The years passed. Time went by…

One day, the boy came back to the tree.

The tree said, “Come and play with me”.

“I am no longer a kid. I do not play around a tree anymore. I want toys. I need money to buy them,” said the boy.

The tree said, “Sorry, but I do not have money… but you can pick all my apples and sell them. So you will have money.”

The boy was so excited. He grabbed all the apples on the tree and left happily. The tree was happy.

The boy never came back for a long time after he had picked the apples. The tree was sad.


One day, the boy who had then grown into a man, returned and the tree was excited.

“Come and play with me,” the tree said.

“I do not have time to play. I have to work for my family. We need a house for shelter. Can you help me?”, the man asked.

“Sorry, but I do not have any house. But you can chop off my branches to build your house,” the tree said.

So the man cut all the branches of the tree and left happily.

The tree was glad to see him happy but the man never came back for a long, long time. The tree was again lonely and sad.

One hot Summer day, the man returned and the tree was delighted.

“Come and play with me!”
the tree said.

“I am getting old. I want to go sailing to relax myself. Can you give me a boat?” the man asked.

“Use my trunks to build your boat,” the tree said, “You can sail far away and be happy”.

So the man cut the tree’s trunks to make a boat. He went sailing and never showed up for a long time.

The tree seemed to be happy but the happiness was not real.


Finally the man returned after many years.

“Sorry my boy, but I do not have anything for you anymore. No more apples for you…” the tree said.

“No problem. I do not have any teeth to bite,” the man replied.

“No more trunks for you to climb on,” the tree said.

“I am too old for that now,” the man said.

“I really cannot give you anything… the only thing left is my dying roots,” the tree said with tears.

“I do not need much now, just a place to rest. I am tired after all these years,” the man replied.

“Good! Old tree roots are the best place to lean on and rest. Come, come sit down with me and rest.”

The man sat down and the tree was glad and smiled with tears…

Everybody has “Apple Tree” in his/her life, which is OUR PARENTS…
When we were young, we loved to play with our Mom and Dad.
When we grow up, we need their helps to continue our lives.
We leave them, and only come to them when we need something or when we are in trouble.
No matter what, our parents will always be there and give everything they could just to make us happy.

You may think the boy/man is cruel to the tree, but that is how many of sons and daughters nowadays treat their parents.

Guys, do not take them for granted.. Please appreciate all that your parents have done for you. No matter how busy you are, share some time with your parents!

Always remember… we owe a lot to our parents who given us their time, care and love through the years. Filial piety and gratitude are noble and great spiritual virtues to cultivate. We must show our gratitude to our parents and people who care for us. Don’t hesitate! Don’t wait until it is too late…

Rasulullah SAW said that Jibril AS said: "Woe unto him in whose presence his parents or either one of them attains old age, and (through failure to serve them) he is not allowed to enter 'Jannah". To this Rasulullah SAW said “Aamiin”!

HOW TO CURE YOURSELF FROM H1N1? (EXPERIENCE OF A PATIENT’S FAMILY)



A small but meaningful info to all of us… a real story from a friend…



My staff was crying herself sick… was told that her son was confirmed of H1N1 in his University at Kangar, Perlis... worse was that when he was bedridden 2 days, the warden didn’t even bother to sent to hospital till his dad came from KL and with his friends assistance brought him to GH Kangar....

No one bothered in the hospital and he was put in the normal ward for another 2 days!!! (imagine the amount of people he has infected!!) ... after 2 days and his eyes were turning yellow and saliva greenish, he was put in quarantined room...

He called his mom to ask for forgiveness... she practically fainted just telling me the story... can’t do much because she didn’t have enough money to go to the north with the father...

First thing we did was made her call the hospital and insist that they sent him to Sg. Buloh Hospital or any other hospital in KL since they seemed to be more alert and more equipped... they refused of course... so I sent her off to Kangar the same day to solve the problem.

Whilst this was happening, SUBHANALLAH, I had a call from one Ustaz who was in town to "help cure" another H1N1 child in Shah Alam… and was told this simple prescription by him... of course you have to redha and tawakkal to ALLAH…

The Ustaz said, EAT MINIMUM 6 GREEN APPLES A DAY AND FRESH ORANGE JUICE. For those with sore throat, please blend the apples and keep on taking till your fever disappear and your symptoms are gone... I cannot explain it but the child in Shah Alam was ok too after taking this tip...


I suggested the tip to her, and she tried. Her son was given the apple juice for the whole two days, and with ALLAH’s will, he was out of the fever the day after that... she called me and was crying on the phone to say that her son was out of ICU and was able to eat normally... all these happened within just 4 days… ALHAMDULILLAH…




p/s: This is just to share with my fellow sisters and brothers and hope this small info could assist others as well, INSHA ALLAH… No harm in trying and with Allah’s will, anything can happen!

PARADOXES OF OUR TIMES


Today we have bigger houses and smaller families.
More conveniences, but less time.

We have more degrees, but less common sense.
More knowledge, but less judgment.

We have more experts, but more problems.
More medicine, but less wellness.

We spend too recklessly;
Laugh too little,
Drive too fast,
Get too angry too quickly,
Stay up too late,
Read too little,
Watch TV too much,
And pray too seldom!

We’ve multiplied our possessions,
but reduced our values.

We talk too much, love too little,
and lie too often.

We’ve learned how to make a living,
but not a life.

We’ve added years to life,
not life to years.

We have taller buildings,
but shorter tempers.

Wider freeways,
but narrower viewpoints.

We spend more, but have less.

We buy more, but enjoy it less.

We’ve been all the way to the moon and back,
but have trouble crossing the street to meet our neighbors.

We’ve conquered outer space,
but not inner space.

We’ve split the atom,
but not our prejudice.

We write more, but learn less.

We plan more, but accomplish less.

We’ve learned to rush, but not to wait.

We have higher incomes, but lower morals.

We build more computers,
to hold more information,
and to produce more copies,
but have less communications.

We are long on quantity, but short on quality.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion;
tall men and short characters.

More leisure, but less fun.

More kinds of foods, but less nutrition.

Two incomes, but more divorces.

Fancier houses, but broken homes.

That’s why I propose, that as of today,
you don’t keep anything for special occasions,
because every day you live is a special occasion.

Search for knowledge. Read more.
Sit on your front porch,
and admire the view,
without paying attention to your needs.

Spend more time with your family and friends.

Eat your favorite foods,
and visit the places you love.

Life is a chain of moments of enjoyment,
not only about survival.

Use your crystal goblets.
Don’t save your best perfume,
use it every time you feel you want it.
Remove from your vocabulary phrases like
“one of these days” and “someday”.

Write that letter you’ve thought about writing.

Tell your family and friends how much you love them.

Don’t delay anything that adds laughter and joy to your life.

Every day, every hour, and every minute is special.

You don’t know if it will be your last…

FOUR THINGS YOU CANNOT RECOVER


A young lady was waiting for her flight in the boarding room of a big airport. As she would need to wait many hours, she decided to buy a book to spend her time. She also bought a packet of cookies.




She sat down in an armchair, in the VIP room of the airport, to rest and read in peace. Besides the armchair where the packet of cookies lay, a man sat down in the next seat, opened his magazine and started reading.



When she took out the first cookie, the man took one also. She felt irritated but said nothing. She just thought: “What a nerve! If I was in the mood I would punch him for daring!”


For each cookie she took, the man took one too. This was infuriating her but she didn’t want to cause a scene.



When only one cookie remained, she thought: “ah… What this abusive man do now?”. Then, the man, taking the last cookie, divided it into half, giving her one half.

“Ah! That was too much!” She was much too angry now!

In a huff, she took her book and her things, and then stormed to the boarding place.



When she sat down in her seat, inside the plane, she looked into her purse to take her eyeglasses, and, to her surprise, her packet of cookies was there, untouched, unopened!

She felt so ashamed!! She realized that she was wrong… She had forgotten that her cookies were kept in her purse.

The man had divided his cookies with her, without feeling angered or bitter…





… while she had been very angry, thinking that she was dividing her cookies with him.

And now there was no chance to explain herself… nor to apologize…




MORAL OF THE STORY:

There are four things that you cannot recover in your life:



So please be careful on everything… before you do any thing or say something, please think deeply first, and try to control your anger for you might regret it.
